Government of Alberta

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade leads the Government of Alberta’s economic development efforts and provides single-door access to information and support for Alberta businesses and investors. Together, with Alberta businesses leaders, workers, and economic experts, the Government of Alberta has created a plan that focuses on creating a more resilient, diversified economy. Through the Alberta Jobs Plan, the Government of Alberta is:

  • investing in infrastructure;
  • diversifying Alberta’s economy;
  • supporting small-and medium-sized businesses;
  • improving access to capital, encouraging investment and expanding market options; and
  • providing Albertans with new training opportunities while protecting services for families.

In addition to new supports through the Alberta Jobs Plan, the Alberta government has also established a directory of business resources for new and established entrepreneurs at www.smallbusiness.alberta.ca to help small businesses access the support they need to thrive.

In 2015, small businesses generated a third of Alberta’s GDP and supported more than a third of all private sector jobs in the province. They are the foundation of our towns and neighbourhoods, and provide good jobs for Albertans to earn a solid living for themselves and their families.
